VNR Bihi Guava Hybrid Air Layered Plant

The VNR Bihi is often called the "Jumbo Guava" and is currently one of the most commercially successful guava varieties in India. Developed by VNR Nursery in Chhattisgarh, it was bred specifically to bring the massive size and crispness of Thai guavas to the Indian climate.

It is frequently marketed with the slogan "One fruit for the whole family" because of its sheer volume.

1. Physical Characteristics
Massive Size: This is its most defining trait. A single fruit typically weighs between 300g and 850g, but it is not uncommon for individual guavas to reach a staggering 1kg to 1.2kg.

Skin: The skin is light green to pale yellow when ripe. It is smooth, thick, and very durable, which protects the fruit from bruising during long-distance transport.

Flesh: The interior is creamy white and very thick. Unlike traditional guavas, the seed cavity in a VNR Bihi is remarkably small—about 90% of the fruit is edible pulp.

Seeds: It has very few seeds, and the ones present are small and soft enough to be easily consumed.

2. Flavor & Texture
Texture: This is a "crunchy" variety. It has a firm, apple-like crispness that holds up even when fully ripe. It does not turn mushy or "custard-like" as quickly as the Allahabad Safeda.

Taste: It is mildly sweet and refreshing with a balanced sugar-acid ratio. While it may not have the intense "perfume" of a Mexican Cream, its clean, mellow sweetness makes it highly palatable for large-scale consumption.

Shelf Life: It has an extraordinary shelf life for a guava—staying fresh for 7–10 days at room temperature and up to 30 days in refrigeration.
