The Hayward kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa) is the most widely grown and recognized kiwifruit variety in the world. Originally bred in New Zealand by Hayward Wright in the 1920s, it now accounts for the vast majority of the global green kiwi market.

Fruit Characteristics
Appearance: Large, oval-shaped fruit (about the size of a large hen's egg) with a thin, light-brown, fuzzy skin.

Flesh: Vibrant emerald-green flesh with a white core and a ring of tiny, edible black seeds.

Flavor: A balanced "tart-sweet" profile often described as a combination of strawberry, citrus, and melon. It is generally sweeter than other green cultivars.

Size: Typically weighs between 70g and 100g and measures approximately 5–8 cm in length.

Plant & Growth Habit
Growth Type: A vigorous, woody, deciduous climbing vine that can reach lengths of 8–10 meters (30 feet).

Foliage: Features large, heart-shaped, mid-green leaves that can provide dense summer shade.

Pollination: It is a female variety. To produce fruit, it requires a male pollinator (such as the 'Tomuri' or 'Chieftain' varieties) nearby—usually one male for every 6–8 female plants.

Flowers: Produces creamy-white, slightly fragrant flowers in late spring to early summer.
