🥭 Physical Appearance
The name "Totapuri" literally translates to "Parrot-like" (from Tota, meaning parrot), which refers to its most distinguishing feature:

Shape: Oblong with a prominent, curved beak-like tip at the end.

Size: Generally large, ranging from 6 to 8 inches in length and weighing between 250g to 600g.

Color: The skin is thick and ranges from green to a vibrant golden yellow when ripe, often with a slight green tinge even when ready to eat.

Pulp: The flesh is bright yellow, firm, and relatively less fibrous compared to other varieties.

👅 Flavor Profile
Unlike the intense sweetness of an Alphonso, the Totapuri offers a more complex, tangy-sweet experience:

Taste: A delicate balance of sweetness and acidity. It is less sugary than many "dessert" mangoes, making it refreshing.

Texture: The flesh is denser and firmer, which allows it to hold its shape well in salads or when sliced.

Versatility: Because of its tartness, it is one of the few mangoes frequently eaten raw (unripe) with a pinch of salt and chili powder.

🌍 Origin and Season
Region: Primarily grown in South India, specifically in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh is a major hub for this variety.

Season: It is a mid-to-late season mango, typically available from May to July.

Other Names: It is also known as Bangalora, Ginimoothi, Collector, Kili Mooku, and Sandersha.
