The King of Chakapat mango (also known as the Thai Red Emperor) is a premium, late-season mango variety that originated in Thailand. It is highly prized by collectors and gardeners for its "regal" appearance—specifically its massive size and striking transition from green to deep red.

1. Appearance and Color
This mango is famous for its dramatic color change as it ripens:

Unripe: The fruit starts as a solid green.

Ripening: It develops a reddish-purple blush.

Fully Ripe: The skin becomes a vibrant, deep red (sometimes with golden-yellow undertones), making it one of the most visually stunning mangoes in the world.

Flesh: Inside, the pulp is a rich saffron or deep orange color.

2. Taste and Texture
The King of Chakapat lives up to its "King" title with a high-quality eating experience:

Flavor: It is exceptionally sweet with a Total Soluble Solids (TSS/Brix) level typically between 18% and 24%. It has a rich, tropical sweetness balanced by a very mild, refreshing tang.

Texture: The flesh is completely fiberless, buttery, and smooth. It is very juicy and holds its shape well, making it ideal for both fresh eating and gourmet desserts.

Aroma: It has a strong, pleasant, and "royal" tropical fragrance.

3. Size and Yield
One of the most distinguishing features is its sheer size:

Weight: Fruits are quite large, typically weighing between 700g and 800g, though exceptional fruits can reach up to 1.5kg.

Yield: It is considered a high-yielding variety. Grafted trees are known to start fruiting relatively early, often within 2 to 3 years of planting.

4. Tree Characteristics
Growth Habit: It is a robust, fast-growing tree with a large, dome-shaped canopy and glossy green leaves.

Climate: While it originated in Thailand, it has become very popular in India, Nepal, and other tropical/subtropical regions because it is hardy and disease-resistant.

Versatility: Due to its manageable size when pruned, it can be grown in large containers (for terrace gardens) or in open ground where it can reach significant heights if left unchecked.
