The Red Strawberry Guava (Psidium cattleianum)—also known as the Cattley Guava or Cherry Guava—is a distinct species from the common guava. It is widely loved for its unique berry-like flavor, cold hardiness, and ornamental beauty.

Unlike the large, tropical varieties we've discussed, this is a smaller, bushier plant that feels more like a berry shrub than a fruit tree.

1. Physical Characteristics
Fruit Size & Shape: The fruits are small, roughly the size of a large cherry or a golf ball (about 2–4 cm in diameter). They are round to slightly ovate.

Skin: The skin is thin, smooth, and transitions from green to a deep, glossy maroon-red when fully ripe. The skin is fully edible but has a slightly resinous or tart kick that balances the sweet interior.

Flesh: Inside, the pulp is translucent white to creamy white, soft, and very juicy.

Seeds: It contains several small, hard, white seeds. While they are edible, they are harder than those in common guavas; many people choose to swallow them whole or strain them out for jellies.

2. Flavor Profile
Taste: As the name suggests, the flavor is a sophisticated blend of traditional guava and wild strawberry. It is sweet but has a refreshing, spicy-tart finish (reminiscent of passion fruit or balsamic).

Aroma: It is highly aromatic, releasing a floral, strawberry-like scent that can be detected from several feet away when the tree is in full fruit.

Texture: The flesh is "melting" and juicy—less crunchy than the Thai 7 and more like the texture of a ripe grape or plum.
