Pusa Surya Mango Grafted Hybrid Plant

Pusa Surya is a premium mango variety developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. Released in 2002, it is a selection from the exotic variety 'Eldon' (introduced from Brazil). It is highly regarded for its striking appearance, excellent shelf life, and suitability for both domestic and export markets.

Fruit Characteristics
The name "Surya" (meaning "Sun") refers to the vibrant, sun-kissed appearance of the fruit when ripe.

Appearance: The fruit is medium to large, typically weighing between 200g and 300g. It has an attractive apricot-yellow skin with a prominent red blush on the side exposed to the sun.

Flesh & Pulp: The pulp is dark orange, fiberless, and firm. It has a high pulp content (roughly 72%).

Flavor Profile: It offers a rich, sweet taste with a pleasant aroma and a balanced sugar-to-acid ratio. The Total Soluble Solids (TSS) generally range from 18% to 20%.

Shelf Life: One of its strongest commercial advantages is its long shelf life. It can stay fresh for 8–10 days at room temperature and up to 20 days under cold storage, making it ideal for long-distance transport.

Tree & Cultivation Details
Growth Habit: The tree is semi-vigorous, which means it stays relatively manageable compared to giant traditional mango trees.

Bearing: It is a regular bearer (fruiting every year) and is known for being highly prolific.

High-Density Planting: Because of its semi-vigorous nature, it is suitable for high-density orcharding, typically planted at a spacing of 6m x 6m.

Disease Resistance: It shows better resistance to Mango Malformation compared to many other commercial varieties like Amrapali or Dussehra.

Ripening Season: In North India, the fruit typically matures and is ready for harvest by the third week of July.
