Physical Characteristics
Shape: Distinctively round or "ball-shaped" (roundish-oblique) with a blunt apex.

Size: One of the larger varieties, typically weighing between 300g and 700g, though some specimens can reach up to 1 kg.

Skin: Thick and relatively tough, which protects the delicate flesh inside. It generally remains greenish-yellow even when fully ripe, sometimes developing a slight crimson or reddish blush on the "shoulders."

Seed: Small and hard for the fruit's size, meaning there is a very high pulp-to-stone ratio.

The Malgova is celebrated by enthusiasts for its unique "old-world" taste:

Flavor: Intensely sweet with a sophisticated, spicy-floral undertone. Some describe it as having a "milky" or "malkhoa" (condensed milk) richness.

Texture: The flesh is deep yellow, extremely soft, and completely fiberless. It has a smooth, melt-in-the-mouth consistency.

Aroma: Highly fragrant; a ripe Malgova can fill a room with a sweet, tropical scent.

Harvest & Origin
Origin: Primarily grown in Southern India, specifically in the districts of Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, as well as parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Season: It is a late-season mango, typically arriving in markets between May and July.

Historical Legacy: In 1889, it was introduced to Florida. Although that specific tree struggled with production, a seed from it produced the Haden mango, which laid the foundation for the entire Florida mango industry.
