🌳 The Chandigarh Mango Tree (State Tree)
In Chandigarh, the mango tree is more than just a source of fruit; it is a central part of the city's green identity.

Appearance: Large evergreen trees with a dense, spreading canopy that provides deep shade (essential for North Indian summers).

Heritage Trees: The city is home to several "Heritage" mango trees, some over 150–200 years old, notably in Sector 19 and near the Chandigarh Golf Club.

The Purv Marg Grove: A famous 4-km stretch from Tribune Chowk to Transport Chowk is lined with approximately 9,000 mango trees (mostly Dasheri and Chausa), creating a lush "green tunnel."

Desi Varieties: While markets sell grafted varieties, many older trees in the city are "Desi" (seed-grown), producing smaller, juicy mangoes often used for local pickles or "choopne wala" (sucking) mangoes.
