Arunika is a premium hybrid mango variety developed by the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow, India. It was created by crossbreeding the popular Amrapali and Vanraj varieties to combine sweetness with an attractive appearance.Fruit CharacteristicsAppearance: The fruit is medium-sized, typically weighing between 190–210 grams. It has a smooth, orange-yellow skin with a distinctive vibrant red blush near the stem or on its top.Flavor & Texture: It is known for its rich sweetness and juicy, non-fibrous (fiberless) orange-yellow pulp. It has a high pulp content of about 65% and a very high Total Soluble Solids (TSS) level, often cited around 24.6°Brix.Shelf Life: Arunika mangoes have an excellent shelf life, making them well-suited for both domestic markets and international export.Tree & CultivationGrowth Habit: The tree is semi-dwarf and compact, which makes it ideal for high-density orcharding, home gardens, or even large pots and terraces.Bearing Habit: It is a regular bearer, meaning it produces a consistent crop every year, unlike some varieties that only fruit every other year.Yield: It is a high-yielding variety; an eight-year-old plant can yield approximately 60–70 kg of fruit.Maturity: It is generally considered a late-season variety, ripening from mid to late summer (often May to June in India).Resilience & NutrientsDisease Resistance: The variety shows strong resistance to common mango diseases and has shown partial tolerance to anthracnose.Nutritional Value: Arunika is noted for being rich in mangiferin and $\beta$-carotene, which are beneficial bioactive compounds.
