Pink Lalit Lalitha Guava Hybrid Air Layered Plant

The Lalit (often referred to as Lalit-Lalitha) is a high-yielding, pink-fleshed guava variety developed by the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow, India. It was selected from the half-sib seedlings of the Allahabad Safeda and has since become the most popular pink variety for commercial cultivation in India.

It is particularly famous for its beautiful saffron-pink interior and its superior performance in the food processing industry.

1. Physical Characteristics
Color: The skin is an attractive saffron-yellow with a distinct red blush (like a sunset) on the side that faces the sun.

Flesh: Inside, the pulp is a deep, consistent saffron-pink. The color is stable and does not fade during cooking or processing.

Size & Shape: The fruits are medium-sized and round, typically weighing between 180g and 250g.

Seeds: The seeds are small, somewhat hard, and concentrated in a central core. While more noticeable than in the Arka Kiran, they are manageable.

2. Flavor & Texture
Taste: It offers a rich, balanced flavor—sweet with a pleasant touch of acidity. This "tangy-sweet" profile makes it more complex than the pure-sweet white varieties.

Texture: The flesh is firm yet smooth. It holds its shape well even when fully ripe, which is why it is the top choice for canning and slicing.

Aroma: It has a strong, classic guava fragrance that is very inviting.
